Juror: Julie Harris, Kean University, Union, New Jersey Professor Harris of Kean University received her BFA from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, and her MFA from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She has taught at a number of universities and art schools over the past 15 years, including Kean University; Missouri State University, Springfield Mo.; Sinclair Community College, Dayton, Ohio; and Miami University in Oxford Ohio. She has also presented numerous workshops at colleges, universities and art centers throughout the United States. Her extensive exhibition record includes national and international competitive, invitational and solo exhibitions. At present, her creative work focuses upon breaking the boundaries typically imposed upon printmaking as a creative resource. This means taking prints out of their frames and creating 3-D artworks. Her imagery centers upon creating visual narratives through the juxtaposition of found objects and printed imagery. Currently she is Head of Printmaking at Kean University and teaches printmaking, papermaking and book arts in Union, N.J., in close proximity to Manhattan. Theme The title of the show reflects the idea that Oklahoma is located in the central part of the United States. Open a road atlas of the United States, Oklahoma is on the centerfold of the atlas. The theme is open to the artist’s interpretation and is in no way restricted to portraying Oklahoma. Eligibility All artists who reside within the continental United States may submit a maximum of three works for consideration. Calendar 2006-2007
Following the show closing at USAO, work is packed and shipped back to the artists from Lawton, Okla. Awards The Leslie Powell Foundation will award a total of $5,000.
Eligibility All artists who reside within the continental United States may submit a maximum of three works for consideration. Fees
Fees are nonrefundable and should be made payable to the Leslie Powell Foundation. Payment must accompany slides. Slides that are not accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) will not be returned. To ensure the safety of the slides, please use a heavy (manila) envelope because the postal equipment can shred “bumpy” letters. Catalog A high quality catalog with a photograph of each of the accepted works, citing the winners, will be published and distributed to the winners (two copies each) and made available to other interested people. Slides Artists are asked to submit standard 35mm slides. These may represent three different selections of work, one slide per 2-D work or two slides each for 3-D work. Slides must be clearly labeled with the title and the artist’s name clearly printed on the slide. Agreement The artist must agree to maintain price and entry for the duration of both exhibits. Submission of an entry constitutes permission to photograph it for documentation purposes, advertisement or catalogs. All entries must be of original design and personal execution and completed within the last two years. Sales All sales are between the artist and the buyer. Neither the Leslie Powell Gallery nor USAO in Chickasha, Okla., take a commission on any sale. Media All original media accepted, 2- and 3-dimensional. Photographs and artist prints must be numbered (of an edition) to be considered for an award. No mechanical reproduction prints accepted. All work must have been completed in the last two years. Installations will be considered only if the artist agrees to install the work on site. Shipping and Return Accepted work must be sent in sturdy, reusable crates or cartons. Size must conform to UPS or FedEx size restrictions. Artwork will be returned via the same carrier that delivered it, or it may be picked up at the Leslie Powell Gallery. No shipments through the United States Postal Service will be accepted without prior agreement with the gallery. Work will be insured for return shipment only if the owner requests and pays for this. Work may be hand delivered and picked up. A check or money order dated Feb. 15, 2005, should be included with the work when it arrives. In the event the work is sold, the check or money order will be returned to the artist. Money orders must be good through the month of February 2007. Questions? Contact Nancy P. Anderson at: |
